S.R. 83 (U.S. 331) Bridge over Choctawhatchee Bay
This is a design/build bridge project over Choctawhatchee Bay.
Work began January 2014 to construct a new U.S. 331 bridge across Choctawhatchee Bay. The $118.5 million bridge will be built immediately east of the current Clyde B. Wells Bridge and feature two northbound travel lanes with accompanying shoulders.
Upon completion of the new bridge, the current structure will be used exclusively for two lanes of southbound traffic.
Traffic impacts during construction will include periodic nighttime lane closures and occasional lane shifts. The new bridge is scheduled to be ready for traffic in summer 2015, with final completion of the project set for a year later.
In addition to the new bridge, a dedicated park and recreation area will be built beneath the southern approach. New ramps from U.S. 331 will provide access to the park. The facility will provide a panoramic vista of Choctawhatchee Bay along with ample parking, a boat launch, space for fishermen, public restrooms and a covered picnic area.
